MedNIS is a Swiss network of medical specialists providing consultations on non-ionizing radiation and health. It facilitates referrals from healthcare providers to expert practitioners across Switzerland, supporting informed decisions regarding electromagnetic fields and related health effects.
The Swiss Medical Advisory Network for Non-Ionizing Radiation (MedNIS) is a network of consulting physicians throughout Switzerland. Treating doctors can refer their patients to MedNIS specialists for expert consultation on the topic of non-ionizing radiation and health. The service is coordinated by the Institute of General Practice Medicine at the University of Fribourg and supported by the Federal Office for the Environment (BAFU). MedNIS aims to provide specialized medical expertise on the health effects and concerns associated with electromagnetic fields and other non-ionizing radiation exposures. Consultation availability is offered through designated experts reachable by phone, specifically on Wednesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. The network facilitates transfer of specialist knowledge to primary care providers and supports ongoing studies related to health and electromagnetic fields. MedNIS thereby contributes to a scientifically informed approach to patient care and public health guidance on non-ionizing radiation in Switzerland.
