PubMed is a comprehensive biomedical literature database maintained by the National Library of Medicine (NLM). It provides access to an extensive collection of references and abstracts on life sciences and biomedical topics. PubMed regularly updates its data, as exemplified by the release of the 2026 production year PubMed Baseline files, which contain updated MEDLINE citations with the latest Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) for that year. These updates are scheduled periodically to ensure current and accurate information for users. Recent enhancements in PubMed include improved rendering of reference lists, the addition of date stamps in search history downloads, streamlined sharing options, and other usability improvements aimed at facilitating retrieval and dissemination of information. Furthermore, advancements in the distribution of PubMed data are being implemented; starting with the annual baseline release in December 2025, PubMed’s FTP data will be generated using the same technology as the PubMed website and E-utilities API. This harmonization guarantees that the FTP-distributed data will precisely match the data presented via the website and API, enhancing consistency and reliability across platforms. PubMed is a vital resource for researchers, clinicians, and healthcare professionals seeking up-to-date scientific literature and facilitates access to trending and impactful biomedical research articles across diverse fields.
